For any audio/video vendors, check out resellerratings.com first. The vast majority are legitimate crooks - no exageration. The main ones you can trust - and there may be a few others - are bhphotovideo, adorama, and buydig. I think that was the general sentiment #1 was trying to make.

I have no personal experience with Abe's, but I've heard a few stories and I know how places like Abe's work.
I first became suspicious when I started placing an order on Abe's website and there was a checkbox that asked "Do you want to be contacted about available accessories?" or something like that.
That's a typical camera/electronic bait-and-switch scam. You order a camera at a price far below other reputable retailers. After you place the order, you'll either get a phone call, or an email with a bogus reason to call ("There is a problem with your credit card.") A salesman will ask you if you wanted the battery, lens, or other item that you *know* is included with the camera. The salesman tells you that this is a "special" package that does not come with the typical accessories, and you have to pay extra. The price of the total package ends up being more than what you could find elsewhere. The saleman is pretty persuasive, or if you say no, he become abusive.
All in all, not a good experience.
I second #5 - nobody's better than B&H.
