Great little proc. It's no i7 but it will get the job done better than a Q6600 for about the same price. That said where the heck are the faster AM3 Denebs?

#1 where are you seeing current prices for Q6600's at the same price as this?

Even today this particular cpu is priced at 170 simply because their intel counterparts are priced high too.
Exactly 2 years ago, the Q6600 was available on sale for $240. Today it costs $214. What the f is going on? $26 price drop in 2 years?

Quad cores were released in 2006. I don't understand why they still cost in 3 digits, considering the current state of the economy.
If this trend keeps goin, picture yourself buying a f'ing core i7 920 for $250 in 2011.
Unless Amd makes a dramatic comeback like they did in the graphics card segment I'm not touching any of their processors - if not matching performance with the intels performance per dollar at the least..

If you'd rather just stick with this CPU, the most important thing to look for is the SB750 south bridge. All 790GX motherboards have this, as well as some of the newer 790FX's. Right now newegg has a Biostar 790GX motherboard on sale for $85.

I have the 790GX version of the Gigabyte board paired with a Phenom II X3 720. Nice board.

Most manufacturers are starting to "update" their BIOS to disallow the unlocking of the 4th core. Currently there are only 2-3 boards that will work, with the Biostar being at the top of the list.

"But one motherboard vendor claims that AMD is going to discontinue ACC in its SB750 starting this month. Another board vendor says that it is getting pressure from AMD to update the ACC embedded controller firmware
immediately and post it to an “updated” BIOS."

#8, the discount is applied on the site when you use the promo code in Ben's original post. Ben could have gotten the end price incorrect, too, it happens. In this case it looks like the price has been updated (towards the top of the original post).

#8 - The price on NewEgg WAS "onsale" for $190 ($190 - $20 promo=$170) earlier today, but now it's back to it's original price of $214.99
Some of the NewEgg "sales" end very quickly so if you see your deal you have to act fast. I'd keep checking back on NewEgg and see if the price goes back to $190. Also....try using the NewEgg [Price Alert] feature on the item page so you'll know when an item hit's your price point.

Thanks #7 - I wanted 100% 4th core so I decided to pull the trigger and got it for $170. Just debating on the mb for it.

#11, absolutely. They seem to change prices at a whim on the most random items. I've been monitoring a video card that goes from $89 to $129 at random intervals.
