You cannot use DDL and DTS together, you can only use one of them at one time. Both are fully optimized and sound the same, no one can tell the difference. Any receiver that supports DDL also supports DTS.
You will be paying royalties on 2 codecs but using only one.

Go for the Diamond Monster sound DDL, its worth the 60 bucks. I bought mine used for $18 on eBay.

Only 5 cards support hardware DDL/DTS or both as far as I know.

If you dont have hardware DDL or DTS, you will have to use the analog ports instead and draw one cable out of your sound card for every speaker pair. Any cheap sound card without hardware DDL/DTS will let you play games/movies in surround via the analog ports and dvd's in surround via the digital port (spdif).

Hardware DTS/DDL on the sound card like this one advertised here lets you play games with true 5.1 surround via spdif. That's the only advantage and nothing else. If you don't plan to use the spdif out then there's no advantage to this card over any Sound blaster card.

A lot of noobs buy this card to use the analog ports. Some others praise it, sayin that it sounds perfect- analog outputs deteriorate over time but digital out is digital out, it always sounds the same on all cards, be it a $15 Dynex or a $200 Sound Blaster fatality.. kind of like those noobs who claim that monster hdmi cables are better.

My Monster USB cable transfers data much faster than the cheapo OEM USB cable that came with my Zune.

If I were a gamer- I will spend the $158 on CPU or video card upgrade. $158 for a sound card ? Why not just use the S/PDIF out or HDMI out to your receiver ? Faster speed is always the 1st priority for gamer.
