You're better off with the 32MB cache Samsung for ten bucks more, no rebate, free shipping.

Holy crap! I just beat my wife in a fit of rage because she knew about this deal and let me buy the samsung for $10 more! That bitch!

If you'll be running your OS from it, the extra 16MB cache will help a little. If not, it's $10 wasted. Even so, not having to deal w/rebate, will be worth it for some.

lol #3, Good things come to those who wait....
I remember the Spinpoint F1 was one of the fastest drives last year (sans raptor).

review results:
The spinpoint f1 has a higher access time, but average throughput is almost the same as the Hitachi (note that this is the 7K1000.B, but is not mentioned at newegg)

Spinpoint specs: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/samsung-overtakes-a-bang,1730-5.html
3-platter, 32MB Cache, 14.6ms access time, 3 yr warranty

Hitachi:
3-platter, 16MB cache, 13.8ms access time, 3 yr warranty

Speed Comparison:

I'm leaning towards the spinpoint at the moment.

With the Samsung #2 mentioned, you get extra 16M cache and pay $10 less up front -- and not have to wait like 6 months for the rebate.

maximumPC has the new Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 as very fast drives as it only has 2 platters the the access time is very quick. They compared it to the raptor.
When that comes down to $100 I will get that.
