Newegg has the A-DATA ASDH32GCL10-R 32GB SDHC Class 10 Flash Memory Card for $55 with free shipping. Rated at class 10 speeds, which means up to 23MB/s transfer speeds.

Actually Class 10 means you should be able to write data to it at 10 MB/s. I have this card and tested it with two benchmarking programs. They both rated the card at closer to 9.8 MB/s. Close enough for my needs.

Classes are based on write speeds and there are too many variables to take in account. USB speed, card reader speed, if the file being written is cached or being read from another slow device.

Most devices wont be able to operate at full class 10 speeds anyways. If a camera write speed is maxed at 5MB/s then a class 10 card would be useless.

If a device was limited to 5 MB/s write speeds and it was writing to a Class 10 card, it would simply write to the card at 5 MB/s. The card wouldn't be useless.

I bought one of these last week from Meritline for $56. I put it in my Canon SX30 IS and started shooting video and pictures. I wanted to make sure that I could fill the card, without getting errors. It seemed like it took forever to fill the card. Eventually, out of laziness, I set the camera on the counter and had it record HD (720p stereo) video. The camera would automatically stop after 4GB, due to the the card being formatted fat32. I repeated this step several times, until the card was full. I then transferred the contents to my PC. I didn't encounter any errors, speed or otherwise, using this card.

FYI: Because of the compression and variable content, I got between 19 an 23 minutes of video, per 4GB file.

"doomed", I don't think you really meant it would be useless. It would still be a 32GB card, even if your equipment could only run at class 5 speeds. Besides, I suspect that you would be hard pressed to find a 32GB class 2, 4 or 6 card for this price. Also, who knows, your next Camera or device might be able to utilize the higher speeds. In today's market, this seems like an excellent price.

FYI: I chose Meritline, last week, over NewEgg. I buy from NewEgg all the time and really like them, but due to my location and no DHL outlet in my area their "Egg Saver" shipping is awful. In fact, I would be much better off, if they would just drop "Egg Saver" items directly in the mail. "Egg Saver" usually takes close to 7 business days, to get to my area. On the other hand, NewEgg's "UPS Guaranteed 3 Day Service" is great and I usually receive those items in two days, but didn't feel like paying an extra six bucks for shipping. I buy from Meritline on a semi-regular basis, so it wasn't that big of a deal for me to buy from them.

#4 can you format it in NTFS or does the camera not like it?

Unless it is at a price premium, always buy the fastest card you can. 32GB will be a lot of pics even after camera MP increase a few more times unless you shoot in raw mode... which I can't argue against, but if you're that serious you buy a few cards and swap 'em.
