I have one that's about 25 years old and still very accurate...within 0.5 lb/in2 of my digital unit. A friend bought a new mechanical one at an auto store (not Sears) and it was off by 5 lbs/in2 ! So, be sure to check the calibration of these things, if you buy one. As I recall, virtually all of the mechanical ones got poor performance reviews by Consumer Reports.
