So does having Android on it make it cheaper, does having XP on it make it more expensive, or a little of both?

Do I "know" if it can handle 720p MKV? No... But based upon a review for the Intel GMA950 Integrated Graphics Core (Which this model has) and given it's specs, I would say no.

is mkv even GPU accelerated or would you always need a substantial CPU, more than an Atom at least, making the IGP irrelevant?
