Yes, it's the 3-cell battery version. I got the same one from CompUSA last month. I'm getting 2 1/2 hours of life out of the 3 cell battery running OSX 17 I found a 9 cell battery on eBay for $55. I'm very pleased with my CompUSA purchase. Refurb looked brand new, $2 shipping was ultra-fast (I received it three days later in California).

I wish these stupid Atom Netbook computers would go away. They are nothing but all hype. They struggle to even play a simple youtube video.

Intel chops their cpu down into some super tiny piece, and then all the tv shopping channel hosts brag it up as some big new powerful cpu. The very reason there are so many refurbished netbooks for sale is due to all the returns.

Fair price but not a deal, you can get this price on eBay anyday. Found a "new" one for $260shipped same specs BUT 6-cell, and you have to pay taxes for CompUSA right? If so, for 20$ more you get new not refurb/6 not 3cell.

First off, these are what they are...low power consuming netbooks that provide extreme portability for those on the move. Students taking notes and studying as school books go digital, folks traveling wanting to stay connected and so on.

Secondly, I have purchased two of these from Tiger direct in the last two weeks. TD never touches these units as they come to TD directly from the ACER refurb. factory. Both arrived brand spanking shiny new looking with absolutly no signs of use. The warranty is directly supported ACER not TD. It is 90 days but when you register your Aspire with Acer online they offer an extended warranty at a reasonable price.

Thirdly, these are a very good buy but as mentioned if this will be your only PC it would not a good choice. The shipping was $2.00 to California and no sales tax charged.

I will say though for the PC tinkerer (tweaker), they are a blast as they have a huge following. See this forum that shows what one can do.

#8 has got it spot on. They look spanking new and are designed for very specific usage. Spend more if more processor power is what you need.

Can anyone tell why there are so many refurbs??

My Atom core netbook plays youtube video with no problems. Plays movies with VLC with no hiccups as well.

There's always some troll tard who never owned a netbook bitching on these deals. I was considering a Dell D430 and a netbook. The D430 is "Core too doo oh" so it's way faster but with the extended battery it's pretty expensive and still don't get really long run time. My 1000HE was a great purchase. It disappears into my backpack and I can run around all day and not run out of juice. If you're a road warrior, they are invaluable. I never want to go back to carrying a "real" laptop.

These actually might not be refurbs but labeled as such, the 8.9's are supposed to be discontinued in favor of the 10" models. Perhaps Acer is re-branding existing stock and shrinking the warranty to 90 days in order reduce their overall inventory and risks.

Then again you can buy these at Walmart and Target.

Not a deal, especially if its a refurb

Well, I guess these were such a bad deal that they completely sold out..... . But not to worry, if you are interested in one simply check back with Tiger Direct or Compusa (same company) as they come and go all week long for this price or even less. My first pearl white Aspire one was 202.00 shipped just last week for example. The price floats between 202.00 and 229.00 mainly dependant on which size HDD is in it (120GB vs 160GB). Also, I agree with lucky number 13 as I have seen where a company has overstock (ie 8.9" version) and slaps a refurb sticker to the bottom, sells them at a steep discount, reduces the warranty costs(reduce coverage period) and gets a bussines tax break based on the refurb status when it is indeed new product.

I wouldn't be surprised, #15. Couldn't tell mine apart from a brand-new machine, other than the generic-style box.

netbooks are underpowered, my 1000h struggled with video, now 1000he. using gma boost, setfsb, 2gb ram. it will run ms office, photoshop sc4, autocad, but not so good with video or older games. even web browsing is laggy. i would get 8.9" for portability

Why the heck would you wanna rn Photoshop on a netbppk? I agree with the previous posts that these are great little computers for certain tasks. And I too have had no problems playing video with VLC or YouTube...check your Internet connection before you start bitching.
