Not bad, although that's the 3-cell battery model.

This little toy comes pre-loaded with some Peanuts' software (Linus or something like that)- can you load XP Pro on this thing and will it work?
I know what Linux is - just joking.

Seems like 3-cells are the mass-market models. Hard to find decent deals on anything larger...if the specific company even makes then in the larger config...not all do. For me, I think the HP one is the one to get...I appreciate the large keyboard and availability of an SSD.

No windows XP and a 3-cell battery KILL this deal. Would rather pay $75 more for the 6-cell battery and Windows XP.

#1 you should try Windows 7 on this. But yeah, XP runs fine.

Mine runs Vista Home without any performance issue, has better power management than XP so it actually last longer. The stock 3-cell is shitty so getting a 6 or 9 cell on eBay for $90 is a must.

Again, Ben, not X3100. Atom and 965 chipsets don't go together, at least yet. This one even says its a GMA950 without having to check the chipset, which also confirms its not X3100.

I was going to say...x3100 chipset!?

Seems like a very warm deal even if it doesn't come with windows. You can easily install Ubuntu!

edit: grrr! it's now $282 like someone above said, though when i originally posted this it was only $265, even showing that price after adding it to my cart.

this is a good deal as it is the hdd model, not the ssd, and comes with 1 gb ram instead of 512 mb. this retails for about $350 or more, so $265 is good (and, yes, i just checked the site, even adding it to my cart, and the price is still $265). it's even the 160 gb hdd instead of the 120 gb.

for those wanting the 6-cell: it's only on the highest-end model, so don't expect to find many deals on it and not at this price. maybe once newer models come out a few stores will still have that model in stock and liquidate the last handful at fire-sale prices, but they'll be few and sell out fast, so good luck getting one. the 3-cell is rated for 2.5-3 hours and i'm okay with that as that's about what my work laptop gets. i mainly want this to replace an ancient ibm thinkpad 770x with bad battery that serves as a backup to my desktop, so the fact that it can be unplugged for longer than 5 minutes will be an improvement.

the only other acer aspire one model i've seen dip this low ($250 + s/h @ <a rel="nofollow" href="/merchants/newegg-coupons-53/jump/" target="_new">newegg; http://bensbargains.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=95501) had 8 gb ssd and 512 mb ram. the ssd might sound better than the hdd (ignoring the capacity disparity: 120/160 gb vs 8 gb), but the ssd is horribly slow with writes and only decent with reads. though <a rel="nofollow" href="/merchants/newegg-coupons-53/jump/" target="_new">newegg had it for $250, it's normally closer to $300.

and for those wanting win xp: i've never seen a win xp version for under $300 and that was the ssd model. and i don't want a manufacturer version of win xp (i already have an unused win xp oem licen... [Truncated]

#12: I bought an MSI U100 from Buy.com in December with WinXP, 120gb, 1g RAM, webcam for $349. Presuming the $50 rebate comes in, it will net to $299. Nice thing about the MSI is that it has a 10" screen and a better keyboard than the Acer. However rebate no longer seems to be available, so I suppose all that is moot now.
