You get what you pay for. These panels are typically TN (Twisted Nematic), meaning that if you bob your head up and down the display changes dramatically, just as it does on a laptop display. I had one for a few weeks and it drove me nuts (no consistency for photo editing), so I spent more money and got a 24" display using a better technology (MVA, IPS).

Check out a typical 22" panel in a local store first and see if you find the wide contrast swings objectionable.
