It doesn't need a fan unless, of course, you actually want it to work for any length of time.
Check out the reviews on the egg of the many early failures people have had with this thing.
Stick the $100 WD Caviar (above) into a $40 Antec case, and have something reliable that will last.
I own this and I am very pleased with the performance thus far. I also own a WD and the Acomdata is much faster, probably due to the fact its 7200 rpm vs. 5400 in the WD.
I've had good experience with acomdata's products in the past.
