I don't understand how anyone could use a computer without an optical drive. You would almost HAVE to have an external drive, and plugging in stuff like that kind of defeats the purpose of a mobile device, in my opinion. Other than that, yes, this certainly seems like a nice deal.

Cruiza, short of first time installs a lot of software is available via download. It is inconvenient for those rare cases, but for day to day operation, it makes the device smaller and usually a bit lighter. Seems like s pretty darned good price though.

beautiful device, yes. but anyone considering this should also consider the listing on "HP Pavilion dv4-2145dx" here at ben's which is also a portable beauty & includes an optical & is cheaper & has more memory.

To put it in perspective... In my opinion, the Adamo was overpriced. This deal brings it down to the other ultraportables' price range. And don't forget the COOL factor. AND the SSD drive.

This is a good deal, but not really 50% off. This is an older model. Dell sells the newer one with a 1.4 processor (vs. 1.2) for $999. So really it's 25% off for a slower processor. Again.. a good deal, but not 50% off.

There are three different Adamo models, The Adamo XPS, Adamo Desire and Adamo Admire.

The XPS lists for $1,998 new
The Desire lists for $1,799 new
The Admire lists for $999 new

The write-up on the Microsoft site looks like it is for the XPS (the only one that has the 128g SSHD) but the picture looks like it is the Desire or the Admire. If it is the Admire it is not that great of a deal. If it is the XPS it is a good deal. No way of telling from the MSFT site though.

they'd have to take it back for false advertisement if it didn't ship with the 128gig SSD

#11.. From my understanding: All Adamo's have the SSD. Is the SSHD that you refer to something different than a Solid State Drive?

It seems pretty clear to me that MS is clearing out the older 1.2 Ghz Adamo. The Specs for the XPS don't match. Different picture, different processor, different RAM, etc.

#2 - I use Adamo for more than half of year now. Yes, I bought an external DVD-ROM ($40 on newegg) just in case if I need to copy or write something on CD/DVD - but honestly speaking this happened only 3-4 times so far.
It is a great laptop at this price - too bad you cannot upgrade the memory, since it is wired into the motherboard.

#2 the only thing i have used a usb dvd for on my netbook was to create the recovery discs, and that was just because i didnt feel like going to the store and buying a 8GB flash drive to dedicate to that cause. So far on my hp mini i have formatted the drive and installed win 7 pro, office standard, roughly 15 other programs, connected to my other machines via homegroup and copied mass amounts of media from other machines on the network and oh yeah, that win7 pro install was done completely from flash drive, downloaded from microsoft. All of that with out a dvd drive.

Dvd and cds are almost completely useless unless you have a single program from 10 years ago that doesnt have an addition floating around the net somewhere. I bet your mad because you cant install your AOL on this machine without the drive, am i right?

FYI - You can't apply the coupon until AFTER the screen with your credit card. It does work, though. Still in stock as of 1:45 pm central.

#11 No I was referring to a solid state HD just did not get the abbreviation correct. Yes, you are correct all have solid state hard drives. After several calls was able to confirm with the Microsoft Store that the model that they are offering is the Admire model. The Adamo Admire model is currently listed on the Dell site for $999. So with tax (7% here) the cost for this is $800+. So you are saving about $200+ tax and shipping over buying it from Dell.

#17... I agree. saving about $200+, but you are getting the downgraded processor (1.2 vs. the 1.4 offered by dell @ $999 price). Just something to keep in mind.

Since you aren't buying this for "power" I feel the 1.2 versus 1.4 is fair for $200. I bought one.
