Tiger Direct has the AMD FX-8120 Zambezi 3.1GHz Socket AM3+ 125W Eight-Core Desktop Processor (FD8120FRGUBOX) for $180 with free shipping. Features new Bulldozer architecture, AMD Turbo Core technology, and includes heatsink and fan.
I just got a 2600k and it is awesome compared to X4/X6 PH II, Im sure a 2500k can be had for $200. you will get a better value with 2500k than this. If you can live with second best its fine and commit to this if not spend the money for an SB CPU.
Well a if you can swing a 2500K ($210) you probably need a mobo... the only decently optioned ones are Z68 (what you want if you got a 2500K) and in ATX form factor those start about $100; so you’re at $310.
Now sure you can do a Micro Center deals, good Z68 mobos can be had with the 2500K (In Store Only)for $230-255. Although AMD deals at M-C are almost as lucrative. Like the FX-8120 and the Gigabyte GA 970 AUD3 that has a final of $230... so if you can go there!
So you can get into AMD build for $260; that gives you $50 to spend on a graphics card if it's a gaming machine your building! And while a 2500K prowess can't be denied, I'd have a hard time saying you'd really feel and seat of the pants difference.
While if you go back up to the PassMark link above then scoll down to the "CPU Mark / $Price"; the FX-8120 is showing as 19% better value than a 2500K? That's a surprise and may well have AMD thinking they don't need any more juggling.
All that said I believe AMD could find a little more noteworthy pricing at this point in the game.
That link shows it as $280, but when I add a location it's shows it in the OC as $200... very good find! But I don't think there adding the $50 off on Z68 mobo's (2500K only) so still another $100.
While I got an Email today M-C that had $105 off a couple of 990FX mobo's when you got the FX-8120 but it looks like OC CA only! Like a Sabertooth Socket AM3+ 990FX for $80. http://passonsale.com/archives/1218
Still over price by $15, come on AMD just $11 or 5.5% since January? I'm thinking we could be getting more like another 6.5% ~13% on this by now!
the iintel 7 s only 20 more and that prce should drop as intel brngs out new cpus in may
