oh there we go again another hot cake from AMD but unlike hotcakes these won't sell any since intel's consume much much less power than this muscle car.

This needs to be below $180 to compete against Q6600.

The q6600 while a little old, overclocks nicely. But then you are warming a room.

    #2, #4: but, the q6600 doesn't overclock to 3.7ghz on air.

Forget the Q6600, it's too OLD, this should be compared to the i7/920. Would a new PC builder even consider a Q6600?

#6, a lot of people I know would. Considering the hefty price tag on the mobo/DDR3 and the i7 itself, you would be better off with an older CPU. For a lot of people I know, they would be perfectly fine with an older CPU like core2 duo. C'mon, how much computer do you need to browse the internet, listen to mp3 and type in ms word?

True, the DDR3 is pretty steep.

#9: what motherboard do you have? do you have one with the 750 south bridge chip? say, like, the 790GX motherboards?

Let us know how the overclock goes.

    CompWiz17, from the reivews I saw, Q6600 has higher clock per clock efficiency so a Q6600 @ 3.5Ghz will match a 940 @ 3.7Ghz.

    #1, i don't know where you're getting your information...

    http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=3492&p=7

    http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/phenom-ii-940,2114-8.html

the phenom 2 is no more power hungry than intel's offering.

you can't compare wattage ratings from amd to intel. amd's 125W is the absolute maximum heat output of the cpu (g at 100% for everything, including the memory controller).

intel's wattage rating is based on "typical power consumption," so it will always be lower just by the way they choose to define and market it.
