Nice price for those already assuming they won't want to use the OEM AMD heatsink.
My Phenom I X3 972 3.4Ghz still running strong. No heatsink ever required.
I've built three systems with this chip since it was first released. If you've got an AM2/AM3 board running a dual core or one of the original Phenoms (9050 and the like) you really should snap this up now. It's a great upgrade for those systems and I doubt you'll see a lower price anytime soon.
Maybe not! #3, Black Friday is less than two months away. It might get even cheaper at BF.
125W? No thanks.
i guess this will not work in my AM3 socket Motherboard?
Not a deal. I seen this price 4 months ago at 99 Yea! Now they are giving away the eSATA bracket as a combo for 93. even if this is at 80 bucks I still would'nt buy it.. I agree with #5
If the 945 at 99 bucks. I'll Jump on it..
The huge difference is 95watts Vs 125watts Black Edition

I bought the propus 635 4 cores at 2.9ghz two month ago paid 99.99 shiped OC mine at 3.5ghz stable. Now you can get one for the same price, But much better propus 640 3.0ghz.. If you can get the lower wattage in any CPU the better it is..

The 945 is not AM2 compatible. It's also 135 dollars.
The 940 is the final upgrade for systems based on AM2 boards. These chips are not being produced anymore. We will see what their availability is on Black Friday.
On an AM2/AM3 board there's no real performance difference between the 940 this and the 945 because those boards don't support DDR3. The difference appears in benchmarks when one compares the performance of the 945 to the 940 when the 945 is in an AM3 board that supports DDR3.
The Propus is not comparable to a Phenom II; it's had its cache crippled so that it can be marketed as an Athlon. Please, know a little about what you're talking about before giving advice, especially the gem about "the lower wattage in any CPU the better it is."
If you have an AM2/AM3 system you may be able to put a newer 945 or even one of the hex cores in it but the CPU will be limited by the motherboard to DDR2 so you don't get a real benefit to spending the extra cash. For that you need to build a brand new system from scratch
So, to restate, if you have an AM2 or an AM2/AM3 system this is the upgrade not to miss unless you want to build a new system from scratch. It's a hundred dollars that will actually give you a noticeable performance increase.
#8 Thank you for point this out, I agree. Athlon and Phenom II is not comparable. two different subject, Like a apple and a orange.
This is my own personal experance from builting, playing and testing Athlon and Phenom II cpu. It is a give and take suituation between 6mb cache from the Phenom and Athlon vs price point. standard DDR2 Vs DDR3, Standard Hard Drive Vs solid state drive. Good Heat Sink Fan for overclocking Vs Stock. Computer Case with no air flow Vs Good air flow case. Good Mother board and Good Power supply. It all boil down to, what you put in a system. The reason I mention the Propus, because of the price point and depend what you pair up with to make it go faster than the Phenom II 940 and 945. our eyes cant see much of the difference unless you run a benchmarks test using a good sofware program. I'am using a Propus 635 and soid state drive with 4gb HyerX and it FAST.. I'am sure many of you know the rank of the good better and best AMD CPU already..
Sorry #9. Reread my post and it comes across a little snarkier than intended. I should have given you the benefit of the doubt and realized that you didn't actually mean that lower wattage means a better CPU without the qualifier "when all other things are equal" or something similar. I apologize.
#10 Thank you. Actually, your right about what you say.. I just did'nt explain well enought in the first place to set this off. And for you to point this out.. No need to apologize. Because, Sometimes I use words very losely. My bad. Glad to see, We can clear this misunderstanding up. Thanks again..
