Newegg has the AMD Phenom II X4 945 Deneb 3.0GHz Quad Core CPU for $140 with free shipping. Features 2MB of L2 Cache and 6MB of L3 Cache with Hyper Transport Support. Heatsink and fan are included.
Not sure why is posted? I been eyeing on this cpu for 3 months. and the price is still same.. Never change.. I'am thinking about getting the Athlon II 640 3.0 quad core for 120.00 I already got the 635 2.9ghz for 99 and works great I like the fact that this takes 95watts and got 6mb of cache and the 600 series don't..
#2 Yes, The Phenom II 940 is much better than the 945. Everything is the same, except two things. First the 940 is a Black Edition, can unlock muti. and second it use 125watts. all for 118.00 right now only OEM no heatsink. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103644
Just keep in mind, I like the 945 because,it use only 95watts save energy. 2nd. very compatable with all cheap mother board that support up to 95watts..
Beware that many boards which claim CPU support up to 95W are not designed very well, barely able to support 95W meaning you may not get a good lifespan from it running at that load, and often it also means if you try to overclock you will need a higher vcore voltage to do it, creating more heat, lowering o'c, etc.
Also, the only real reason one is rated for 95W and one 125W is the latter is also rated for a higher peak voltage of 1.5V. Running them at the same speed and voltage (which is generally possible and expected stable) they will consume practically identical amounts of power.
In other words, AMD is overrating the power on most of their 125W CPUs, they rate them as a family with only the highest clock speed parts at the end of the generation actually hitting the max design power spec'd... and it has been this way for a few years now.
Lastly, the choice of which CPU to get can depend on what combo specials are available, quite often you can get a pretty good discount off other parts if you need anything else... 11 pages worth of parts in combo specials for this CPU.
