This is a good budget power supply. It's made by FSP, and, like many FSP power supplies, it has fairly high ripple. However, in testing at [H] Enthusiast, the ripple never exceeded ATX specs.

CompWiz17 - How does this PS compare to the Corsair VX's that were posted yesterday?

this power supply is not good. You wouldn't believe antec is willing to stamp their name on this one. I got it for $8 on black friday from fry's and I would rather pay an extra 15 for the neohe380. It is loud and whiny, also ridiculously overpriced.

#2: the Corsairs are better, without question. However, they also cost a lot more.

This is a fine Budget power supply, which can actually supply the full 500watts it's rated for(as documented at [H]Enthusiast).

However, keep in mind that it is a budget power supply. the cables are not sleeved, the fan isn't the quietest around, and it only has 29amps (348watts) of 12v power. There are some 450watt, and probably even 400watt power supplies that have more 12v power than that.

The Antec Earthwatts 380watt power supply is on sale currently (unless the sale has ended) for $30, also at newegg. It has a quieter fan, higher efficiency, lower ripple, better voltage regulation, higher quality construction, and almost as much 12v power. For most single graphics card computers, that Earthwatts would work fine, and would probably be a better choice than the Basiq.

But, if you need more total power than the Earthwatts can supply(maybe if you're using several hard drives or optical drives) this Basiq would be a solid low-budget choice.

#3: $30 for a 500watt power supply is not in any way "ridiculously overpriced". This is a really good price.

Also, what do you mean "You wouldn't believe antec is willing to stamp their name on this one"? The Antec SmartPower 2.0 power supplies are certainly worse than these Antec Basiq PSU's. And, even not compared to Antec's worse power supplies, this is a good budget power supply. It can put out the power it claims on the label while keeping the output power within ATX specs.

A loud fan doesn't make this a bad power supply, just look at how loud PC P&C Turbo Cool power supplies are.

it's considered bad form to copy someone else's post to the letter without using a quote block or even mentioning where the post came from.
