Specs say Efficiency Up to 85% with Active PFC, but not marking it as an 80 Plus. What makes it different than the NEO ECO 520C 520W which is CERTIFIED Efficient >80% with Active PFC. Is it just the Antec didn't get it Certified?
80plus certified is supposed to stay above 80% eff. through all load ranges.
Even though many active PFC power supplys are fairly efficient... many often fall below 80% at at max load.
Yea, after searching this appears to be the Basiq Series which is nowadays a little dated. It's so not the worst... not the best. Designed back in the day when multi-rail PSU's (this has 3) where the next big thing. "Up to" probably available on a good day, cool ambient, just the right load, it might get 85% I bet that's what that means. While the NEO ECO are a single rail, they are said to have similar component/construction and I believe newer so Antec probably down the rating and sent to get Certified.
50 is too much for this model. I'd pay 50 maybe for earthwatts 500.
This unit is manufactured by Delta. Compare its label to the earthwatts 650. I have a feeling, but can find no detailed review on the web to support it, that this unit is a slightly gimped modular EW 650. Also, for those of you who enjoy making fun of CompWiz17, here is a quote filled with false information from this item's history...
"This antec Basiq here is a budget low wattage FSP design. It can't put out the wattages that it's rated for if the voltage is a bit lower than the normal 120V AC. This power supply failed the testing at [H]Enthusiast."
He of course was referring to the Basiq 500w, A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT UNIT. Becareful what you read on the internet.
That's the problem with Antec and other PSU relabelers, you have to keep researching them to know if it's a Delta, or maybe an FSP, or maybe a Channelwell, or ???
It's worth $50, but in the past we've seen PSU worth $50 discounted below 50 so ...
I got one 500 watts Antec running on XP Pro, bought it combo case and ps. Pretty nice, No problems or what. This is not high end PS. Just a good budget PS.
