I'd rate this as "so-so". It pulls the heat away, but it dumps it onto your lap if that's where you're using it. Also, not really comfortable for lap use due to the edges. Probably better suited if you plan to use it as a cooler on your desk.
I've been using one of these for over five years and attribute much of the longevity of my laptop to its efficient operation. This is a GREAT price on a VERY useful product. You can save the shipping by picking it up in-store through Sunday.
Don't count on Antec rebate, they have trouble to grand it lately. Feel sorry about them!
I've got this, too and like it - it's quiet and there's a quality feel to the materials that some similar products lack. I just wish these were not so thick since it places your keyboard uncomfortably high. Staples has one that has the fans "out back" placing only a narrow piece under the actual laptop. Maybe that's the answer for me...
I got this with the Antec rebate and got the rebate back, earlier this year. It works, true shape is weird and bright blue led light.
I've gotten rebates from Antec for several cases and this cooler; all were received on a VERY timely basis.
Antec has had some major trouble with rebates lately. I ordered the P182 on 1/15/08 and after about five emails they have supposedly sent the check earlier this week.
There's a thread on slìckdêals about Antec rebates, and the general consensus is that they are just VERY slow but the rbaconbates.come eventually.
I have this.
it reduces cpu temps by about 5C at load. (71->66)
Note that although it look like the aluminum surface has a lot of black holes for air to pass, most of them are sealed off by black plastic. (im gonna drill through to open more holes.)
Moves very little air even at the 'high' speed.
I bought one of these a while ago. Useful for desktop use of the laptop. Downside is that Antec didn't put much thought into securing the power cable - it's one of those silly barrel-type ones that put a LOT of leverage on it via the cable. Quite often it falls out by the slightest movement.
Similar stupidity is used by external hard drive manufacturers that make their power plugs out of something akin to shallow PS2 connectors - inevitably they creep out and corrupt your data...
