Most people don't need these... Laptops these days are a lot better than in the past about heat.

It depends if the vents are on the top or the bottom. I had someone ask me what to do about their laptop overheating when they used it on their bed. Note that their vents were on the bottom of the laptop. Good grief.

If you're running something with integrated graphics, like an X3100, you probably don't need a cooler, but for those of us with dedicated graphic cards and who play games, something like this is almost required. My Asus A7K gets scorching hot and even the slightest overclock will give me VPU errors or shutdowns. With a cooler, I can overclock the cpu and gpu 15-20% and play all day and have no problems.

most people don't need these? I'll have to disagree with that statement. Unless you're using your laptop on a table or something this thing is a godsend. The usb plug/cable is not soo sturdy but this thing works to protect your lap and wrist from heat. And it's a lot quieter than the fan in my laptop when it gets hot. I can't imagine using my laptop during the summer without one of these things.

How is Frys.com with rebates? Any chance of seeing that rebate check?

Ben- Shipping's not free. I will get at the store.

Rebate is through Antec not Fry's and they are solid.
100% chance of rebate if you follow up with Fry's if you do have problems.

Just got one from Frys. Their free shipping is working now. $5 AR is a good deal.

I have a overheating HP laptop that I brought another cooler (Kinemax) which blow air UPWARD instead and it works well by blowing air up through the laptop's fan inlet at the bottom.

This one is good if the hot spot is hard driver or memories which pulling air out of the bottom will help.

this is needed for nearly all laptops placed on your body.

This particular model needs to be tweaked to perform better. All the black "holes" on the surface are not actually passages for air, most are just black plastic.

Take of the rubber padding, then take out the screws that are uncovered. Seperate the top part out and then drill through all the black plastic "holes"

I hav2e two and both work perfectly. Reduces CPU temp by about 5C, 61C to 56C

I was charged $6.64 for shipping. Called Frys' customer service and was credited back for the shipping charges.

Have this model. Cools my laptop well, and is not overly noisy. Kinda flimsy tho. Fans rub sometimes and rattle. Have to wedge bits of stuff in and around the plastic to free them up. Sometimes sticking some small object under one side works too...
