A decent value from an above-average brand.

Built by Seasonic. Good, though not as good as Seasonic's own S12 series, but the S12 series is more expensive.

Good value at $35, but the rebate is a bit much.

TheKitty, don't talk if you don't know squat. Antec EarthWatts are manufactured by Seasonic and is excellent in this price range. Most other PSU in the sub-$50 range won't come close in quietness, efficiency and quality.

This 500w unit has 2 PCI-Express 6 pin connectors for those that are running SLI/Crossfire setup. You don't need anything bigger unless you are running 5+ HDD or some very unusual components.

#10: no, definitely not. The Xion is an overrated(wattage) power supply made by super flower. Low efficiency, loud fan noise, and sub-par regulation. This is made by Seasonic, a great manufacturer, who also makes some of PC P&C's PSU's.

I got one of these. Worked fine for a couple weeks. Then it started making a loud, electrical high pitched squealing noise. So I swapped it out for a new one and returned the bad one within the 30-day limit. The new one did the same thing, worked great for a couple weeks, now I have a high pitched squealing noise.

I should note that it makes the noise when the system is idle. When there is a heavy processor load, it quiets right down. I know that sounds weird, but I'm not Bbaconng.

Actually, Jonnyguru found the same thing in his review of this power supply. When load testing this power supply, he said that it had a loud buzzing noise when running at a bit over 100watts. This didn't affect the regulation or ripple at all, so it's not failing or outputting bad power. If you can't stand the noise, you could always Laughing turn off your CPU's power saving technology(Cool n' Quiet or Intel equiv). it wouldn't be very much in the earthwatt's spirit though.

It's probably "coil whine". Years ago there was a product to deal with this when it happened to non-IC CRT TVs (anyone remember those?) I think it was called "coil lacquer", and, yep, you just painted it on the offending coil - or had a "TV repairman" (anyone remember those?) do it for you - as TVs (CRTs in general, actually) had deadly-high voltage. Better to know what not to touch...

Oh - I've had a couple of these EarthWatt PSs. They're fine - not as quiet as Seasonic's 'S' series, but similar efficiency and ripple. They have an 80mm fan at the rear, rather than a 120 at the bottom - and a mesh grill opposite the fan - seems like they were thinking "straight through" flow for the 180.
