Apple Store has the refurbished Apple 16GB iPod Touch for $219 + $0 shipping = $219 shipped. It has 802.11b/g WiFi built in, and because of that they include the Safari web browser + YouTube, complete with the functionality that you've seen on the iPhone. Battery life is 22 hours audio, 5 hours for video. [BizRate]

      Still unable to change battery?

Can this be use as a regular USB flash storage or does it need Apple s/w?

I grabbed on of the 32GB ones at this price, and don't regret it. Web access is surprisingly good. The interface is well designed. With all of the free apps/games and the music and video functionality it was worth it to me. I am not a Mac fan.

It can be set up for use as a flash drive as well. You can set the amount of space you want to designate for that purpose. I found instructions to set that up on the Apple site.

No idea about the battery. I just wish they included an AC charger.

This is the first generation model. Although you can't change the battery, there are tons of external battery options and battery life is excellent.
The new model has better battery life, is thinner, has bluetooth hardware (not currently supported by the software), a Nike+ receiver and tiny built-in speakers. If you want to use it to run, definitely get the 2G instead of this one.

Considering that these come with no AC charger, no car charger, no screen protection, no protective case, and for me -- headphones that just don't work for me, I opted for this first generation model to offset all the costs of obtaining the aforementioned items. The new features are not worth the extra cash.
