Apple Store has the refurbished Apple 16GB iPod Touch for $219 + $0 shipping = $219 shipped. It has 802.11b/g WiFi built in, and because of that they include the Safari web browser + YouTube, complete with the functionality that you've seen on the iPhone. Battery life is 22 hours audio, 5 hours for video. [BizRate]

The Refurbs from Apple.com - Do they rate as a wise way to save money, or a piece of pre-broken crap that someone already returned?

      Has the battery been replaced?

I have seen good reviews of apple refurbs, but I perfure zune simply due to the zune-pass unlimited downloads is like stepping back in time 10 years.

According to Apple's site: "All refurbished iPod models include: The same one year warranty as a brand new iPod, all manuals and accessories, including unopened earbuds, a new battery and outer shell, a new white box."

If you had to buy an ipod versus zune for a 16 year old, which would you choose?

I don't know Helen5. Why not ask them which they prefer?

Refurbs are actually good quality and as "007" posted they have the same warranty as new. Remember that if you're a student or educator there are some pretty good discounts there as well.

#4 - I'd go with the iPod. His classmates may think he's a homosexual with a Zune.

#4 - I agree, most mainstream kids are going to prefer the ipod... cause that's what all the kids are doing these days.

The reference may have been regarding refurbed products sold by Apple but in general refurbs do not necessarily have any warranty. The refurb iPod I purchased (not from the Apple Store) was covered by only a shorter retailer return policy and the third-party warranty I purchased. The product description should explicit state whether there is a shorter warranty period (e, Seagate refurb drives). Read the product description carefully and if there are any questions, email the retailer prior to purchasing.

Ipod touch has all the nice games though, that would be fun.

Is Apple still doing the "trade in your old iPod for a 10% off an iPod" thing? Can we use it towards one of the refurbs?

I take it this is for the 1st Gen Ipod touches? It would be better then to just get one new from Amazon for a few bucks more.

Usually the refurbs are fine however you can get one with some slight visible wear and tear on it.
