How good are the refurb. ipods? I was considering getting a new gen. 60gb one but don't think it's worth the cost (especially considering it'll probably get thrashed pretty quickly)

i also want to buy this for my father so i was wondering if there is a big risk when you buy refurb products like this ipod.

I've owned 3 iPods, all three were refurbs from the Apple Store.
All 3 were/are good to me. My 2nd (a 4G 40GB) needed to be swapped out at the Apple Store, but there again you get the same warranty as new, so no worries (and if you're into extended warranties the extra year for $50 isn't extortionate). I don't see much reason to buy new from Apple given my good experiences with the refurbs.

i've had better luck w/ refurbs than new ipods.

We have had 2 refurbished 30GB ipod videos for a few years, and they still work fine.

This iPod is good.. I like the Zune better, much better.. try it, you might might agree..

Refurb iPods direct from Apple have been *mint* in 3 out of 3 times I've ordered. Refurb iPods from Buy.com have been baconnaise 1 out of 1 times I've ordered.

i dont see the 30 gb option they are all 80 gb or 160 gb refurnished.

I've bought 4 iPod refurbs in the last 2 years. 2 of the minis and 2 of the 30 gig Videos. They look and work like new and have the same warranty as a new one. The headphone jack on the 30 gig videos is a weak link with use/time.
The Zunes would be worth a try if you can score one of the 30 gigs for $99.
