$279 is for the 1st gen. The 2nd gen is going for $349 (32gb). #6 - there's a free app called Fring, which might be what you're looking for. You have to be connected through WiFi and have a mic attachment (on your earphones), but you can make calls via Skype with it.
then some company should develop a sim piggy card for the gsm radio or some attachment device.
i got a new ipod touch 2nd gen 32 gig for around 250. i had a 30 percent microsoft cash back that gave me back 115 and additonal 10 percent off for using paypal coupon.
now that it is at the price I always wanted, I am not going to buy it.
Wait until summer... new iPods due out then.

Got the same deal during last Christmas #10. Came to $234 even after 30% LCB & 10% Paypal. Been kicking my ass ever since for not buying all available for the price.
