Frys.com (audio warning) has the Apple 8GB iPod Touch for $249 with free shipping. It has 802.11b/g WiFi built in, and because of that they include the Safari web browser + YouTube, complete with the functionality that you've seen on the iPhone. Battery life is 22 hours audio, 5 hours for video. [BizRate]

When all is said and done it's media player player with just 8GB of storage and no expansion. $250 for that? I don't think so!

Yes, but it doesn't say it includes the software update... so count another $20 towards the price.

And for all that, you STILL can't change the battery yourself.

When all is said and done, it does a lot more than a generic mp3 player #1.

When all is said and done, who cares if it does other things? It's primarily a media player. Storage capacity is key.

It's also a kick-ass pocket WiFi web browser. Just look at the price of the Sony Mylo. I'd rather pay the extra $15 and buy from Amazon, tho.

#4, I guess you could have said this does more than a rock too. It still doesn't change the truth of what #1 was saying.

I like it, I have the iPhone and is perfect since I spent alot of time at the gym on the machines watching videos. I don't know any other mediaplayer/phone that is this good. Other than that it does has some downfalls to it. PS. battery life has been more than fair to me as I can watch more than a few movies on it.

Can't you pop it open with a guitar pick like the Video iPods perhaps?

While 8 GB isn't all that big, it should be fine most of the time. I have a 4 GB iPod nano and I have not found that I need much more than that. But that's just me. I don't have a desire for my entire music collection to be with me at all times.

If you are going to use this for video you should consider the 16GB model is better. This IS more than a media player. I was a basher until I won and tried one. Very cool product. Thanks Ben and Handhelditems.

Any pocket PC can run videos in many formats, and they can also browse the internet, play music, run MS Office, some are universal remote controls, some are phones, all are expandable, you can store and browse photos, play games, write quickly and easily, and add an incredible amount of added programs. The Apple devices are very limited, the only advantages are multitouch and they seem to be thinner than the competition. No expansion slot is a joke. You can only fit 5 iTunes movies on this with no leftover space for music.

It's $239 now, but as someone else said, if you want to keep lots of videos, look at the 16GB or 32GB models for $$$$

#15: Don't be ridiculous. You can't compare the PocketPC browser with the one on the iPod Touch! I've been using PocketPC devices for years (Dell Axim X30, T-Mobile MDA, Sprint Mogul) but that's because I'm a cheap-ass bastard. It's pretty clear to me that they don't even begin to compare with the touch or iPhone in terms of features and usability. Although, you do have a point about the lack of memory slot.

#17, I agree with your opinion on the pocketpc class. Having used two Compaq iPaqs I can say the Touchs are worlds apart from them. The lack of expansion slots is not a problem for me. With the ease and speed at which files can be added/deleted on the Touch why is there an issue with expansion?

#17- Pocket PC's cannot compare to the Iphone in terms of features? Are you drunk? The only reason the Iphone is even popular (besides apple fanboys) is because of the usability. I will give you that. HOWEVER, it doesn't do anything pocket PC's couldn't do already. It doesn't have high speed internet, there's no GPS, and I think it is a commonly accepted fact that pocket PC's are better business devices. I love the fcat that the browser is the best part of it and the cripple it by not supporting 3G. BRILLIANT! The camera optics are terrible as well. Lets just all face it, the Iphone owes every bit of it's success to the marketing team. You can't even compare the Iphone to a real, good, pocket PC. You like the media goodness? Try the Nokia N95, it destroys the Iphone. Business user? Try the HTC TYTN II. (Tilt) Also destroys the Iphone. Whats that- you want to impress your friends in 6th grade? Yes, I think the Iphone was the right decision.
