I've heard some who say, only the innards are put into a refurb.

I agree their refurb quality is very good. I have no hesitation buying refurbs from apple.
got a refurbished ipod for $100, fcking keep crashing in 4th months, got 1yr warranty, took it to the store, was told cant fix it and no replacement units for me, and i have to call the tech support. Tech said i need to send the unit in but need to pay $40 shipping charge to them so they could return the unit to me, or if i want to avoid the shipping, i could purchase the $50 extended warranty. i hung up the call and smashed the ipod with a hammer. no more Apple products for me forever.
