Other than Mac OSX, this seems to be much less than is in the similarly shaped and sized Dell systems, and costs more to boot.

Sadly the little Dell runs AMD, ATI and DDR2, so you can't directly compare them.

Sure you can, #3. That's what benchmarks are all about.

The Dell gets pretty costly when you add comparable CPU, Bluetooth, wireless N, applications like iLife and Windows 7 Ultimate. The big negative with the Mac mini is no mouse and keyboard. Right now the best deal is the Lenovo Q700 with the $150 off listed yesterday.

Good cpu, bt, quiet, dual video out, optical out, wifi n, ddr3, and nvidia 9400.

For $429 it's a great price, the Dell Zino can't touch it's features at that price, first and foremost the Mac has a real processor with 3mb of cache, faster ram, nvidia chip with full VDPAU decoding, BT, WiFi, dual digital video out support, optical in and out, and more.

I would have picked one up for my HTPC if they were not sold out.

I think they should have been around this price all along, but you can't beat the ilife intergration. It really makes this a one stop shop. moviemaker vs imovie, come on, no contest. This is very tempting!

may make more sense to just buy the current mini from amazon for $579 and possibly no tax (i live in NY and the state govt f**ked us with sales tax on mail order unfortunately) - as for $150 more you get and extra 40GB on your HD, and 1GB RAM, and faster processor ... 2GB DDR3 is $50-$75 already.
