I have to ask. What kind of dumbass would buy this? 40 gigs and does little more than the other 50 different kinds of media players will do.

I might get one but I'd hack it before anything else. I'd use it to replace my XBMC Xbox 1.

I just replaced my AppleTV with a Western Digital WD TV Live Network-ready HD Media Player which can handle HD content and only cost $100-$150.

This item runs hot and I mean hot. you need a hot plate to put on as it will leave a mark wherever you place it.

it's worthwhile b/c you can easily hack it and put Boxee on it. Then, you have access to Hulu, torrents, etc...

I bought one used off of Craigslist for this price...
By simply rebooting this with a patchstick usb it adds Boxee and XBMC and turns it into a BEAUTIFUL high-def (720p) media library and player. The patchstick will also enable and recognize external usb drives. XBMC/Boxee will automatically populate the movie info with synopses, Thumbnails, backgrounds.
AND it will sync/play your itunes movies and music and you can rent high-def movies from the appletv interface.
Much more impressive than the WD-TV players.
I am thinking of stepping up to a ZINO from dell, but for the $$$ this is a great purchase.

Apple TV is pretty good when hacked. Boxee doesn't do Hulu well. The drive size is weak but it plays everything off the network. I use the built in wireless so didn't need to run wires. It does run pretty warm but uses less than 20W power. It has a built in youtube player which the kids enjoy. All all in all, if you hack it, I'd say it's worth a buck-fitty. However, if you're not gonna hack it then don't bother unless you already own a shitload of Itunes content.

If 720p is BEAUTIFUL then 1080p is GORGEOUS that AppleTV doesn't have which all the newer Media Players have (they all are much cheaper than AppleTV). Which led us to the old knowledge that Apple is Overprice.

Yes its know for user friendly, design but it also associate with extremely overprice hardware & proprietary accessories. In this case a serious deficiency of GORGEOUS 1080p which is an essential nowaday. No MKV and such unless you mod it with Boxee....
