You said that Netflix was not immediately available.
    Netflix has streaming.
You made a factually incorrect statement.

I see that cslewis models his posts after the other great fairy tale author with the same name. And, as Aslan said in the Chronicles of Narnia... "You're not in Arkansas any more, Dorothy!" *smirk*

I hear this thing comes paired with Microsoft Bob. I think it's a perfect match.

I'd like to use Netflix on demand, but they don't like my XP-64 bit machine.

What worries me is that, to offer refurbished products like this, they must've either had a lot come back as customer returns, or had a mistake in production that required rework and the fixed units couldn't be sold as new.

The latter is no big deal, really. Manufacturing rework happens all the time, and the refurbished products are usually subjected to much more thorough quality testing than the run-of-the-mill production.

But if these are customer returns, what happened? Were there really that many Apple fanboys/girls who jumped on this when it was announced, then realized it didn't do much and returned it? It'd have to be a fairly massive pile of returns to justify offering the refurbs as a regularly stocked item like this.

I am using a netflix plugin for my vista media center. Works perfect. Engadget had a good post on it this week.

First of all cslewis, this isnt Apples department. They need to go back to trying to sell toilet paper holders with an ipod attachment. give me a burp break. It doesnt take a super computer and 6 bill gates predecessors to figure out the software involved to integrade a movie watching device for HD Tv's. It takes companies like Direct TV, Netflix, Comcast and Tivo who have been running the movie and cable data streams through-out America for decades allready. Good luck apple trying to integrate a DVR into the unit without being sued by Tivo. And you cant download any movie without a DSL or cable conection so with comcasts new movie download stations you will be able to do that without additional ipod propaganda hanging around the TV set. Netflix has movies avialable just as fast blockbuster or hollywood video would have them in store so with that apple is playing in the wrong field just as wallmart tried to sell their movie on demand services.. Dont waste your time with Apple TV. And to hook your computer up to your TV is just as simple as any other unit. Do you think the Apple unit is wireless or something? What a burp moron. A CPU with a tuner card. Plug em in just like any other burp unit and turn em on. How hard was that. Most tuner cards come with a remote and recording capablities as well. Apple doesnt want to give you that because they want to to keep raping you with upgrades. burp apple, burp biggy smalls and burp the world..lol

A few questions to anybody who can answer:

How much do movies rented via the AppleTV cost? I had the 3-at-a-time program through Netflix, and I paid about $1.40 a movie based upon my viewing/shipping habits. Also, I could rip and or burn those DVDs and build my personal library. Is that possible with AppleTV?

    #27:

All Apple factory refurbished product comes out of the box looking brand new. It's also covered by the same warranty, and gets treated that way when serviced or supported, as the New-in-Box counterpart.

I've been buying factory refurbished (read: not 3rd-party refurbished) products from Apple for as long as they've made them available. I've never had a single regret, or a single issue they didn't stand behind.

    #32:

New releases run $3.99, "Library" titles $2.99. Netflix is a better deal if you're getting individual titles down to $1.40, clearly.

We're in the same boat, but find that the convenience of iTunes rentals is really seductive, and both iTunes and Netflix have their place in the way we consume media. When I get tempted to cancel my Netflix subscription I don't based on the number of titles available. I just use both in different ways.

Thanks #33, I agree there's a place for both. I've got a gift card for iTunes and will end up using it on movie rentals, but probably won't shell out $200 for the AppleTV since I can easily plug my computer into it.

Can this thing play all formats of video - or would I have to compare all divx wmv stuff to the apple formats, like you have to do to play video on an ipod?

So, #38, Apple offers rentals for the low, low price of "Yes" ?

I better stock up on that if I'm going to buy one of these AppleTVs.

More old apple ideas of Jobs to try and change the way people compute and interact the way he wants you too.He is still trying to fill in that gapping hole that was left when the Amiga destroyed the Lisa and Macintosh and made him look like the self satisfied burp that he is. Remember that camera that looked like a monocular that was gonna change the way people took pictures? It could hold like 32 pics and is just one of the self serving products those scary rebels of the computer world farted out sitting on bean bag chairs to sell to you half wits. Id have a apple and I have, but I want a "insert product" that I can use for more than six months. Jobs has successfully engineered you to be sicko-fants of his. Just think if Woz was still there, they would sell 1200.00 bongs buy now.
