I'd rather use an xbox to stream off of my Vista machine.

You can get XBMC for AppleTV and watch 720p. My original XBMC can't handle full HD.

My original Xbox (XBMC) is a better media center than an AppleTV and is like 30% of the price.

I heard that the Apple TV + XBMC works pretty well but can't do 720/1080p .mkv files.

I LOVE my popcorn hour. I have not seen an Apple TV, but a friend of my has it and says he loves it. So I think there's room for both products in the market. Look into both closely.

I have an original xbox + xbmc. I also have an ATV + XBMC / Boxee. Bottom line, the 300mhz boost in cpu performance helps a little but you don't get hardware video acceleration under XBMC on any platform at this time so XBMC on ATV isn't that much better than on the original xbox.

Hopefully that changes sometime soon or I'm pitching the ATV.

Forget Apple. Get a Western Digital WD TV HD Media Player and a 1TB drive. Waaaay better.

OS crashes often is a understatement.
