^ No, it uses 2 PCIe lanes based on the connector, meaning it won't physically fit in a PCIe 1X slot, and since there aren't any motherboards with a PCIe 2X slot, it'll need a minimum of a PCIe 4X slot.
If you mean what would happen if you took a saw and sawed off the contacts that don't fit, if you didn't short it out that "might" work at reduced speed, but doesn't seem like a good option.
Well, some motherboards feature PCI-E slots with open ends, so you can stick something like this into a 1x slot.
Of course, that's not too common, and this product isn't worth the price. You might as well get just a normal SATA card, and stick the drives in your hard drive bays. Or, if you really want a drive on a PCI-E slot, get one, like the OCZ Revo drives.
Why get this? Just connect the drive to a sata connector.
#1, it's basically a SATA III controller card with a 2.5" bay integrated.
Bill,
Maybe your PC doesn't have SATA III?
LOL @ #3. How do you know his name is Bill?
Does this work with pcie x1?
There are not much PCs that have other than pcie x16 or pcie x1
