Bought my wife this for xmas. Absolutely craps on the iTouch. Only problem is that they shaft you by charging you extra $$$ for the most basic things - want to browse the web? Have to buy the web browser plugin which is SEPARATE. Want to listen to movies with AAC, or MPEG-2? Gotta buy another plugin. Want to watch Quicktime? Another plugin. Want to record TV on this? Have to buy the optional DVR dock. Want to charge the battery from empty to full in less than a freakin DAY? Have to buy some sort of extra battery adapter because the USB cable takes FOREVER to charge this thing. Then, beware - the 'case' that comes with this unit does not even FIT the 160Gb 605! You have to shell out MORE money for a case that fits. Awesome device but you sure as hell have to pay through the nose to get it to where you want to be.. it's still better than the iTouch though.

You forgot to mention that the battery is non-replaceable. I don't think it's reasonable to compare it to the iPod Touch, it's definitely not targeting the same audience. The Touch is small and lightweight, solid state, and one-tenth the capacity of the large, heavy, hard drive-based Archos 605.
With its large, beautiful screen, the 605 is definitely more pleasant to watch movies on, but good luck trying to put it in your pocket.

It's in my pocket right now. Yeah, the battery isn't replaceable, but neither is the battery on my Clie NR70 - which still holds a full charge after about 6 years and has served as my world-time alarm clock and ebook reader every single day since I bought it. We'll see how this does after 6 years.

You must have a very large pocket! I'm taking bets that the drive will fail within 2 years, tho. Archos uses regular laptop drives and they don't last very long in these devices. Good luck...

      #5 - You think Archos is a no-name brand?

      You must be a super-noob.

#6, Archos is a brand just like Coby is a brand. You win.

I seriously hope you're not comparing Archos to Coby.

Of course not, I just said it's not a no-name company, since it has a name, just like Coby does.

I rather get the apple ipod touch with 16GB even though it has a smaller hard drive capacity. Archos products are too bulky.
