Don't forget to budget a few plugins at $30/$40 a pop to add basic functionality. This thing is a total ripoff. Archos sucks.

Thanks #2. I've got the 160GB...picked it up when it came out new for $320. Not ready to see my investment sink that far.

This is a pretty decent player. There aren't many restrictions (compared to an iPod). This is also a great price for the 160 GB player. One item to note is that the hard drive players (like this one) do not have a memory card slot.

So which is it, Walmart.com or Yugster.com?

Walmart doesn't carry the 605 online.

Paying for additional functionality may be annoying, but show me one PVP of equal quality (excellent screen, WiFi etc) that even COULD show all movies in native format (no conversion) and have browsing for the price of this Archos, even if you add $50 for the plug-ins (which I don't need). I'd rather the head unit be as good and as cheap as possible - why would I pay for browsing when I have a perfectly good computer for that?

#6 Don't know how you missed it, but this is the 30GB player so it's an OK price.

Anyway, I forgot to mention: Amazon has the DVR/dock for about $50 (half the original price). It includes a nice remote, plus the ability to record SD input and display SD output (don't remember if it has component out, which is moot anyway since the player can only handle DVD-quality video = 720x480). But beware...lots of reports of losing battery life if the player is left in the dock for long periods of time.

battery life is also less than advertised and those those stupid "upgrades" you have to pay for to watch most movies make the price more like 195$$
