When 4870 X2 costs less than $400, 4870 1GB has to be less than $200.
i'm waiting for gddr37
This card lets me play Police Quest III @ 1920x1200.
Unfortunately, Leisure Suite Larry keep crashing Win98.
I'm a big fan of Asus video cards. Their drivers for the HD3850 are the only ones that work on my computer. I had to return a Visiontek card because I couldn't get all the hardware acceleration to work, and ATI's drivers don't even work on either card (both AGP) but Asus drivers work perfectly right out of the box.
#4, you should be using ATI drivers anyway because they will be updated and optimized over time faster than the manufacturer's drivers. If the card doesn't work with the chipset's maker, they didn't follow specification and your card is probably crippled in some way. I found this out with another brand's card the hard way.
I had said that ATI and their AIB's had really asked a premium for that extra 512Mb. To add that extra GDDR5, probably cost the less the $6, while they had commanded $40+. Right today the 4870 512Mb are price point @ $190; while 1GB version should command only $20-35 more.
Before Christmas the GTX260 216-Core a better place to push toward given this level of cash, but those as of late have become less apparent in “deal status†and see prices of $270 or higher. I believe those were only a stop-gap card and will wane quickly once the GT212 and GT200b show.
So given the market today this is about on course, given it an Asus with a non-stock cooler. And, driver issues are almost always because old crapp wasn't thoroughly wiped clean!
Here's a 1Gb Power Color for $225... but not the free shipping.

might want to be careful with this heatsink. You need a fan exhausting the air from this card out of the case or it will cause a large increase in case temps.

A GTX295 is ever so slightly better, but with the ATI's design on these X2's PCB and cooler... they'll at least maintain the B-f-B crown for the high-end.
#6, there you go, 4870 X2 for $400.

Oh good, you saw it. I have two wasted posts now. LOL.
