http://www.baconpig.com and everyone else on this planet has posted this over and over again for $300. What's the big deal?

Yeah, I agree...the 1000HA has been $300 pretty much since the 1000HE came out. I *did* notice this unit has the updated, chicklet keyboard, but I'd still put down $50 more and get the 1000HE (Bluetooth, 11n, upgraded cpu).

Blue or black? Either way, you are really going to enjoy it.

The updated keyboard didn't bother to fix the most egregious problem with these machines, in my opinion: The TINY right-shift key makes this machine impossible to touch-type on. Otherwise, they're nice!

(I have the 1000H, and I'm *still* making mistakes ALL the time after several months of occasional use).

Oops, I took a 2nd look, and the 1000HE *does* have a slightly improved shift-key size and placement. It still looks like it would take some getting used to, but perhaps not as much.

I'd like to see Asus copy Acer's design, and shift the cursor and page-up/down keys DOWNward a row and make them half-height -- that would make room for a full-sized and normally-positioned right-shift key (as well as allow for real pageup/down buttons).

Remap your HA keyboard. It works alot better when shift and pgup are swapped.

FWIW, this is the cheapest I've seen a white HA. They are usually more expensive than black or blue.

And run eeebuntu. Skip that XP crap.

Which is better? eeebuntu or Easy Peasy
The latter has a higher pagerank on google ("eee ubuntu"), if that means anything.

I went to Best Buy and looked at the HP and Dell models for right around the same price. I went to get a Asus EEE PC but the screens are so much better looking on the HP and Dell netbook models so now Im not sure about this...

I just bought the 1000ha from zipzoomfly on ebay, to get the 14% live cashback and the rebate. Total around $266. For me there isnt enough difference from this to 1000he for $50 extra, a little faster processor 1.6 vs 1.66 and the wireless n is only 2.4ghz not 5ghz which defeats the purpose for me. To each his own.

#10: IMHO eeebuntu is better, but from what I understand, the two are basically functionally equivalent. They are both Ubuntu but tweaked for netbooks (specifically eeePCs but I understand that it works on Acer and others too).

Easy Peasy has a tabbed interface which I don't particularly like. eeebuntu uses gnome and AWN and looks super slick.

You can try them both. Boot off a USB drive or SD card and see which you like. Then do a hard drive install once you decide.

You can also use Ubuntu straight out of the box, but I like all the pre-work and tweaking that eeebuntu has already done. And the eeebuntu community is very organized and active. I suppose Easy Peasy is too but I don't know first hand.
