No more ASUS junk for me. Their monitor is crap. My EEEPC didn't even survive 3 years of light use... My 2000 laptop dell lasted 10 years.
My 2004 Dell 5160 has lasted about 8 years, but is now on a downhill path. My wife, however, had a Dell notebook that was bad on day one and gave up on it after about 3 years. Lemon. I've been happy with my Asus products, much more than MSI, Abit, Soyo ...
They all have lemons. As many products as they make they can't all be great either due to design or manufacturing issues. If you aren't an early adopter there should be enough reviews out there to uncover problems that will effect all of that model and if you get one that is just a dud you should return it for an exchange or refund. This applies to most products these days. To do the testing on such sophisticated products to ensure they were all 100% problem free would drive the price through the roof. Naturally some companies have better track records than others. Apple usually ranks high in this regard but they charge more for comparable products. There is no free lunch!
Battery life is sub-par for a netbook.
I bought the first generation of the eeepc and its still going strong. I loved that little device back in the day, cutting edge stuff back then. Asus has a good reputation for quality. I would recommend them to all my friends the asus brand. I have nothing but good things to say about them. I own 3 laptops from them, all still working strong including the first gen eeepc.
I would put Asus slightly below the Dell's and Acer's of the world but their prices tend to be better as well.
Once thing nice about some Asus is the 1 year "drop protection" warranty. They will replace your laptop (some models) if you drop it and it breaks.
Your username is techsupport, yet you come here and bash Asus while lauding companies like Dell and Acer? Admittedly, the latter isn't an entirely terrible company but when it comes to laptops, the last few YEARS of reliability surveys will show you that Asus Laptops had the LOWEST incidence of failure rates amongst their machines.

couldn't help but notice 2010, I remember back then Ford had a good rating as well. don't expect any laptop now days to last over 5 years, if it does you will want to change it anyways because word 2015 is to slow on it.
#3, how dare you use logic and reason in a Ben's post???
All sold out. They only have three on sale.
Atom processors are terrible. I wouldn't ever get another one. I have since purchased a HP dm1z with the AMD fusion chip. It runs great and the sound from the built-in speakers on it blows away my ASUS.
I've a real bad experience with HP laptops and will never buy an HP again. What happen was some how my Lapto DVD just stop working, some kind of windows update or something made it unsuable. I tried every freaking thing I could find try to fix it but it just wouldn't work. I even replaced the drive and it still doesn't work.
^ Blame Microsoft not HP, HP doesn't use proprietary chipsets or DVD drives so anyone with same Windoze install and config would have the same problem no matter the brand.
However I am wondering if it was just coincidence the drive seemed to stop working after an OS update, perhaps the mainboard contacts were damaged somehow.
I bought one of these before and returned it. The processor is frustratingly slow and the 3-cell battery couldn't compensate for that.
Eventually picked up the Hannspree netbook with a beefier chip and 2 inches worth of extra viewing. Still super portable and can handle even the most demanding of multiple window-browsing. Using it right now.
only 3-cell battery? This would probably last about 2hrs.
