Remember that the bigger screens have bigger keyboards. Biggest of the 10" screen computers is the Asus PC1000H series.

There is a chance that the EEEPC900-BK010X could be selling for $129 through Amazon.com's Customers Vote event.

    #2 No.

The $129 eee that Amazon may have is the one with a Celeron, not an Atom, and a 12 GB SSD not a 160 GB hard drive.

These are probably the minimum specs you'd want to look for in a netbook. Price seems pretty good for what you get too.

I briefly had one of the Eee's when they first came out with Windows XP and a 4 Gb hard drive. Even though I didn't want to do much but e-mail and internet on it, I just couldn't manage to quit bumping the ceiling on that 4 Gb. But 12 Gb might be doable. $129 is VERY attractive.

Who can tell me where I should go other than bensbargains to keep an eye out for that Amazon offering? Thanks in advance.

Here are details on Amazon.com's Customers Vote event: http://promotions.amazon.com/gp/cv/

There are 6 categories of items with 3 items in each category. Customers vote on the one deal they would like in each category. The winning item in each category is offered for the ridiculous deal, while the remaining two items are offered at less-ridiculous deals. The quantity of items available is limited, and only a few customers will get a chance to buy these items.

the 160ghd is worth a 200 on this laptop. This would be better on vacation than my subnote book

So tempted to get this. If this was a 10" I would have definitely bought it.

    I think #3 is correct.
I also voted at Amazon and I also thought that Asus was with ATOM and hard drive. After reading this thread I hard workerand took another look and found that it actually has a 900MHz Celeron and 12GB SSD. To be honest, I don't think I want that netbook even for $129.

#6, it's very easy to run XP and a browser and email client and stay under 4GB. Use NTFS compression, install TinyXP, don't go installing any of the newer MS Office products or at least be discriminate which parts are installed.

Get rid of the patch backup/uninstall folders, the installshield install packages after installing apps (back them up to a thumbdrive if you really want to), get rid of the dllcache and driver cache. You can have XP with Firefox and Thunderbird and have it be less than 1GB, or less than 2GB if you're not all that picky about what else you install.

That doesn't mean this is the best machine for any particular purpose, just that a netbook doesn't have to be a standalone self-sufficient machine that does everything a desktop does.

You cannot touch type on this one. You need at least 10" screen one if you are planning to touch type

Thanks, DavC All of that is a bit beyond my level of geekiness, although I would love to say it's not.

Thanks, swag5997, heading over to Amazon to look now.

Back, and the Eee was the only one I might be interested in.
