Not sure if there is really a market for this type of device or not. You can almost get a decent laptop for this price.
this seems like it is really easy upgrade. Saw something where a guy put in a 16gb usb key and usb bluetooth adapter.
#1 good point #1, the vostos from dell just went down to $399 a few days back.
You can get a decent (Core Duo or Athlon64 x2) notebook for this price. On the other hand, the Eee is about 1/3 the size and weight of a normal notebook. You buy an Eee for portability, not speed or features.
Oh, and does anyone else notice the Newegg watermark on Ben's product image?
Dude!
Buy a Dell!
The target market is people that need a sub-mini laptop for portability, not ghetto dogs that just want something cheap.
funny how they act like $399 is such a good deal for this. It's the same price everywhere else. I thought this site was for revealing good prices on items?
#7 yea but this thing is hard to get sold out everywhere which is why it is posted.
#8 bullshit newegg has them in stock all the time.
Laptops are portable by definition. It is weird that this device is marketed as "super mobile". What's so different from laptop or a phone with internet/mail access?
Large screen? Full size keyboard? PC-level specs? Runs a real operating system?

And this is a bit of a "deal", as the high-end Eee runs a little over $400 (or is out of stock) at most stores. The "Surf" model, which has a smaller battery and no webcam, is the one you see in stock everywhere for $349.
# 8 newegg has it cheaper $ 349 for the this one and $ 399 for a long battery life model.
this is about this size not speed .
Pass on this concept car
I want to get my hands on this thing and see what it can do. I am in the market for a laptop though and for about $100 more I can have one with some nice features. Here's to hoping that these will drop in price in a bit.
It's also been hacked to run OS X:

#10, don't be a moron. Try carry around a 6 lbs laptop every where you go. These things only weight 2.0 lbs and u can pretty much carry with you every where you go. You can't do that with a vostro. Well you can, you will just look like a burp nerd with a huge backpack. lol.
I love the size and the fact that it uses a SSD, but it's just a little too under powered and a tad too expensive to me. Maybe when the demand drops a bit and price falls a little, I'll be more interested.
I just sold off my Nokia 770 and looking to get one of these but #17 is right, the unit is just overpriced right now with the SSD still relatively expensive. Not to mention the 4gb of space isn't exactly a whole lot of storage. Now if it had a 40gb SSD then I'll be all over this. Also considering this is such a light weight UMPC will save your back from breaking. I've carried around a digital camera that probably weighed about 5lbs on my shoulder when I was on vacation, walking about 3hrs a day with it, my shoulders were killing me by the end of the day. Try holding a 5lb book in your hand for a few hours and see how much pain you are in then you'll realize the eee pc is the best choice.
Looking at this makes me love my Dell 710 even more.
