#16: My post was about marketing of this device. My palm based phone receives e-mail, web, plays movies, mp3s and does slideshows. And the best thing is, I do not even need a small backback to carry it. That's portable. Try to put Eee in your shirt pocket. I guess you should be able since it is advertised as "super mobile".

This is not a special price. In fact it was around $350 on NewEgg once, and can always be gotten for $400.

Isn't the $400 due to the $50 built-in camera and extra bettery life? I forget.

btw- $350 model is different from the $400 model.

yep, definitely a toy. but it's not a bad one at that. I snagged one from newegg before the $399 models sold out. Comes with the linux-based xandros distro, which serves its purpose fine. how are you going to complain about a 12 second boot? if you buy it for what it is (internet appliance device), you won't be disappointed. email, messaging, web-browsing, even music - what's to complain about? Get a home PC if you want to play crysis, you cheap bastards.

It's not a concept car. The Gateway Handbook and Toshiba Libretto proved this market ten-plus years ago. Before that, the HP 200LX.

It's just rare to see an ultraportable getting mass-market attention. The times, they are a-changin'!

The "8G" model of the eee pc comes out in a week or two according to the sales line at asus. also you can purchase it directly from asus over the phone for $399. The "8G" has 8gb SSD and 1gb ram pre-loaded with winXP. Price is $499.

Is it a deal to but it at regular price?

I have read about a "Pirate Edition" of WinXP that is stripped down and runs faster on slow hardware. It would seem that this would be perfect for those wanting to run XP on this machine, however, I haven't been able to determine if WinXP Pirate Edition is real, or if it's just a hoax. Most references to it point to an article at uncyclopedia dot org. I couldn't find it on Mininova and thepiratebay wasn't responding when I was looking for it there. I would totally buy this Asus if this "Pirate Edition" is real.

i travel alot and a small unit like this would seem convenient, but i d rather carry a larger one and have all of my important info in one placeif i just need something to cruise the net with when i am not doing anything work related this would be the way to go.
