this thing succeeds in getting the buzz going at least. obviously people like the idea a lot. There's a certain piece of the market that's kind of neglected - almost all the ultraportables are high-end doodads over $1000 and some rediculous ones over $2000 so I'm really glad asus has brought this option to the market. My goal has always been to play Unreal Tournament at the library on a computer that fits in my (cargo pants) pocket, and then be able to hook it up to a big monitor with VGA/DVI output. This comes very close...

John_Foxen, SSD is indeed quicker than the limitations of a mechanical drive. You can't compare a SSD drive that connects via USB headers (typical flash drive) to a mechanical drive connected via ATA.

"The typical access time for a Flash based SSD is about 35 - 100 micro-seconds, whereas that of a rotating disk is around 5,000 - 10,000 micro-seconds. That makes a Flash-based SSD approximately 100 times faster than a rotating disk."

I can understand the negative comments regarding the eee. I felt the same way. Until I got one. I was given a $200 gift certificate to Amazon.com. Decided to buy the eee with extra $200 out of my own pocket. I love it. Small and lightweight for portability. Replacing 500MB ram with 1Gb stick definitely helped. I was going to install xp home on it but found I actually liked the Linux variation. I can see why this is a big hit. It does the basic requirements such as playing dvd and music files, internet access and word processing, which many pc users are only looking for. And there are simple workarounds to the 4GB hard drive (sd card slot or usb ports). I believe ASUS did a great job on the design and hopefully will influence other manufacturers to make ultra-portable laptops at a more affordable price.

Yeah I am pissed about the eee from Asus. I waited 9 months thinking this thing was going to be $249.00. So I passed up a dell rebate for $100 on a single purchase, and the $400 dell inspiron and then this crap came out at $399.00. That is BS. Anyway. Let me know when this thing is worth buying meaning below $300.00.
