Since no one ever comments on gpus Ill help out. This is a very slow card that cant do modern games. The on board cpu is slow and the memory is slow. The card is nvida not ati, there are really only two makers of gpus. I know there are more, but that will be for the younger members to point out for our amusement. I wonder if anyone or anything can "help" us with all this complicated new technology?
For the slower members that is sarcasm, I know it rhymes with that other word but try to keep all your faculties.
PS a gpu is cpu you hair splitting jack off, are you really that stupid?
well, pretty close, but not quite right. It's the on board GPU that is slow. There is no CPU on this card.
However, you are correct that this is a slow card, certainly not for playing games.
Unfortunately, the large heatsink ensures that although the card itself is half-height, this will not fit into a half-height case, which are common on HTPC computers.
Also, there is no HDMI connector on this card, which renders it even less useful for HTPC applications.
Really, your better bet is to get an ATI Radeon 3450 or 4350 or 4550 at newegg. They commonly go on sale for $15-30, and they often feature half-height size and included bracket, passive cooling, and HDMI output. Plus, they all have full HD video acceleration, and built-in surround sound. Those are not gamer cards either, but they're perfect for a HTPC.
Just to note, some people have mentioned that ATI driver support for linux isn't very good, so be sure to check that out before buying an ATI card for a linux computer.
Additionally, if you're building a new HTPC right now, you'd probably be better off just getting a motherboard with an IGP built in that is capable of full HD video acceleration. Why put an extra card in if you don't have to? Just make sure that the motherboard has the outputs you need(like DVI, HDMI, VGA). AMD's 780g and 790gx motherboards are popular choices for this.
Whats the max number of HDTV capture cards you can put in an HTPC? Can you have two or more dual-tuner/capture cards?
#3: I would assume so.
If the cards don't do video encoding onboard, your CPU may not be able to handle encoding too many streams of video. Also, your hard drive may run into problems if you're recording multiple streams, this is one of the applicatioons where having more hard drive cache helps a lot.
Just got a valid rebate denied by ZipZoomFly's processing company -- good luck!
That would depend on the hard & software, mostly on the hardware though. You may run in to conflicts between multiple capture cards when installed, but with a but of agonizing and tedious debugging it can be done.
Interesting that the History does not list 512M version for $20:
