Sigh...a lot better cards out there.
Ya, like this for $7 more and only a $10 -AR. I've found Gigabyte to be exceptionally easy rebates that do arrive, not that Asus is bad. But all that for a... it Two and half year old card.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125251
The rebate is for PNY graphic cards... 256MB version too.
It's total irrelevant what the performance level or age of the card is, people aren't buying them for reasonable gaming or much other than the slot type and the outputs supported. Either it suits the need or it's dumb to contemplate, like being fascinated which participant would win in a race between a 5 week old snail and a 3 year old turtle.
#3 -- Well that would make sense as the "Click Here" button brings up a PNY VCG8400SXXB 8400 GS 256MB 64-bit GDDR2 PCI-E card for the price shown. However, it a fan cooler on half-height PCB with the brackets.
While the Asus 512Mb being listed is $25 -AR $10 and no free shipping.
Way to go Wallace... stop chugging on Ben's Bottle!
#4 -- However, the features and abilities of a new card are relevant, and can be a good point to step up into when it's your cash being spent...
Would you drop cash in the a two and half year old snail or a eight mouth old turtle?
What's irrelevant is this card for something other than a Ubuntu Lotus machine someone wants on the cheap.
A great video card for a grandma's Internet surfing machine. But then again, the built-in video on a motherboard could be just as adequate...
I got one for my sister and she said it was fine. I also got the rebate quite quickly. I am building a super cheap machine. I might try this one.
You still don't get it #6, it does not matter the age of the card, only the outputs one needs and perhaps HD video acceleration, decent heatsink that doesn't use a tiny frail fan. 10 years from now people who don't game still won't need more video card than this, though probably HDMI output or whatever replaces that in the future.
Till then, ITS A WHOPPING 18 BUCKS, the time spent to order, receive, install, and bench test for stability takes enough time that I'd drink $18 less beer so it's a break-even proposal (or maybe I should buy cheaper beer but as you wrote it's my money).
