I want to try SLI with 2 cheaper cards, to get the performance of a really expensive card. Would getting 2 of these do that? Any others?

#4: no, not even a little. You need to put two gaming cards in SLI to get gaming performance. Two cards mainly intended for accelerating video playback will not give you anything worth gaming on.

If you'd like a low cost gaming setup, get a good single card for cheap. Like, the Radeon 4850 that was recently on sale for $55. That card would be much, much faster than two of these in SLI.

#5: well, are you planning to use GPU accleration, like in the newest Adobe products? If so, you'd want to get something with more processing power. Like, the abovementioned Radeon 4850 for $55.

Also, you'll want to go with a Radeon card, not a GeForce. nVidia has severely limited the acceleration of Adobe products on their GeForce lineup, only allowing full acceleration on their expensive Quadro cards.

On the other hand, ATI is allowing full Adobe CS4 acceleration on all of their DX10(and newer) video cards, Radeon 2xxx series and later. link: http://bensbargains.net

Of course, if you're not using GPU accelerated software, then this is perfectly fine for photo editing.

I dont know very much about video cards, and I currently have a MA78GM-US2H Gigabyte mobo, with integrated Radeon HD3200 graphics. I notice that some of my movies are kinda of choppy here and there, would this card be a step up? I do have the PCIe x16 slot open..

That integrated video card is fully capable of playing back HD video. Are you using a video player that supports GPU acceleration? If you're seeing choppy video, chances are your video player is running all the decoding through the CPU.

This video card wouldn't really be a step up, either. From some reviews I've read, the GeForce 8400's sometimes have some trouble with playing back HD video.

If you were to buy a discrete video card to help with HD video playback, the Radeon 4350 currently on sale for $15 would be a better choice. link: http://bensbargains.net/deal/105057/

But, as I said, you shouldn't need a better card just for video playback.

#6, thanks a lot for the detailed information!

I have not looked at these stuff for a while and did not have a clue that the market is growing complicatedly! Ten years ago, all I concerned with regarding video cards were memory size and either nVidia or ATI chips.

My little sister wants to have one. I have no idea what type of editing software she wants to go with. Your information is very helpful. Thanks again!

Here's a thought, get a 3450 for $20 -AR and get the extra 10%; and see how that works by engaging Hybrid Crossfire of your 780G Mobo, which Gigabyte is showing support.

As to the 4350 there's not that much difference between them, while 4350 aren't supported in Hybrid Crossfi... [Truncated]

I use 50 words and 231 characters and present something useful that was requested...
You said 19 words and used 97 characters and... while using two different posts one right after another.

Glad to see you're adept to care so much about what I post I just figured I could return the favor. It helps to use that edit button, which if you have an extra thought you can add it to the first post.
