Really not worth it. If you're looking for something so you don't have to use on board video get the $10 PCI-E card listed farther down. If you're looking for something to play games with you'll need to spend a bit more.
What if you only have PCI but no PCI-e slots .. what then?
Right #1,not worth it at all. I've just got a 8600GTS and a pair of OCZ 1GB DDR2 800 combo deal for $20 AR a week ago.
Do you have experience with this? It seems like it would be pretty good to me, and I wouldn't mind a video card upgrade.
What type of video card are you using now?
If you're after a cheap upgrade from on board go with the Radeon 2400XT deal that was posted the other day for $10. It's actually faster than the 8400 GS but neither of them will let you do any graphical intensive stuff.
Agreed gassy, not worth it, ether go for the cheap HDPC cards or invest in a stronger card for around the same price for gaming.
You should give that machine to someone you hate - and get a system with PCI-E slot for youself....
Man what a joke $38 and a rebate please... It's about like buying old 6200... Maybe if it was a AGP or PCI interface the cost would be in line, but PCI-E why what a waste. That 2400Pro for $16 last week was like two tiers above this. This is a down grade from almost any on-board chip that would have a PCI-E slot.
I dont know, I have the mobile 8400M and its not bad for doing some graphically intense things. Though I only really use it for work (3d animation) and not gaming... so could be a bit worth it for a slight upgrade over onboard. Also, for Adobe CS4 and many of the 3d applications, the manufacturers recommend Nvidia because they write better drivers... so for work graphics purposes Nvidia is more reliable.
You get what you pay for with this video card.

I got http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814162004&Tpk=KFA2%208500%20GT cause I have a slim-PC and needed a cheapo card that beats onboard video w/o changing my power supply.
20 bucks after mail-in-rebate is a steal.
I wanted to get a pci-e card without having to upgrade my power supply. With this card, will it be possible. I have a 400w Zalman but with only 15A on the +12 rail. I want to at least play L4D at a decent resolution and graphics.
But I am looking for a silent (fan-less) card to put into my Media center. Any other suggestion?
#13 - Good luck with the rebate... Nvidia's year end, bottom-line appreciates your bailout till January… They should pay you for the investment!
#14 – That Zalman PSU should be fine with mid-range lower watt cards (definitely stay away from ones requiring auxiliary power connector). Want to game L4D on moderate resolutions find a deal on a GSO, while I'd believe the 9800GT might push the limit of the PSU depending on the other components are running. While if running higher resolution now or in the future you can't beat the price, performance, and low power provide by the HD4670.

#16, thanks. Its exactly what I needed. I compared the HD 4670 to the 9600GSO that I was going to get and they both benchmarked the same, plus the 9600GSO required an external power.
