Is this board a good start for a home VMware/ESX server?
Is the onboard ethernet supported or will I need to spend $120 on an "approved" adapter.

ESX runs on homebrew machines now? Used to be that VMware had a list of approved machines for ESX. Check their site.

The problem with just about ALL on board ethernet adapters is that they are tied into the PCI buss, not the PCIe buss.

That means they are incapable of reaching gig speeds no matter what, because the PCI buss just can't move data that fast.

As always, you get what you pay for.

    FYI.
