1680 x 1050 resolution on a 22" screen? My 17" laptop has a resolution of 1920x1200.

The difference in vertical resolution wouldn't be very noticeable, but 1920 vs 1680 horizontal would be.

Plus, there's the overall dots per inch. 1680x1050 on a 22" screen is going to have larger, more noticeable pixels than 1920x1200.
