It is true that these custom cad chips offer better performance than their *consumer* counterparts from the same generation but they are way overpriced since the market is too small.
Any Gtx 260 or 5770 will wipe the floor with this card running cad...AND offer much higher detailed wireframes due to the extra onboard ram.
This is an R600 chip and don't have the exact spec's on a V7700 (well at least in this comparison) it looks to be probably like a 3870. Sure if you had Fire GL or Quadro drivers that worked with those newer cards they might, but there in lies the problem they aren't certified for them so compatibility and operation is like going to cause issues, and that something real business users don't want to chance.

Professional businesses programs like SolidWorks, Seisworks, or Wolfram (almost no one uses AutoCad) are actually paying for the drivers and the qualification that partners certify such drivers for their programs. While the card manufactures don't expressly provide any warranties or support services to end user of the drivers, that is why they work with the software companies (partners). It's not anything like the relationships for gaming card where ATI/Nvidia release the driver for there customers not so much the gaming houses.
There similar apples, but one is turned into great tasting fritters the other a nice pie. Two totally different recipes.
