Meaningful contribution #2: I get lost a lot... I need one of these.
Ha! I've got an actual meaningful contribution.
CNET gave this a 6.3 (http://cnet.search.com/search?chkpt=astg.cnet.fd.search.cnet&q=Averatec%20Voya%20350%20Portable%20GPS&tag=srch)
But the one review on NewEgg gave it a 5/5.

I am looking to buy a GPS unit 'cause I get lost ALL the time (just like vonZipper). Anyone have any recommendations or know any good deals coming up on Black Friday or Black Monday? Thanks.
I bought a Garmin streetpilot c340 for my girlfriend because it got good reviews and was supposed to be easy to use. After almost 6 months of using it I would recommend it because it's been reliable and we haven't had any problems with it.
I would stick with Garmin. Have 3 Garmin's one for hiking, on a boat, and in a car. No complaints. Other brands, I am told, tend to me very user unfriendly.
Stick with Garmin. They're the best in GPS products. Take a look at the new Nuvi. It has SiRF GPS chipset also.
Anyone heard of this company before, Garmin and Magellan are the established companies in GPS navigation.
yeah definently consider a garmin over this one. no deal.
DOES THIS SHOW U S AND A
Averatec is known for inexpensive laptops that compete with Sony laptops such as 10.4 inch and 13.3 screens offerings. This seems to be their first try with Navigation products.
Tom Tom, Garmin, Magellan, and, surprisingly, Lowrance (which makes quite good GPS solutions) would win out every time against these. Eventually, however, their dominance in the market will be eaten away by 'okay' GPS solutions from companies like Dell, Sony, etc.
The important parts are the UI and the maps. Beware companies that skimp on either.
Tom Tom has the most annoying commercials ever, but I highly recommend their products. Get you where you're going every time.
all GPS systems are pretty much the same, it just depends on how many satelites they grab and which data provider they use for the maps. in the vehicle/personal navigation world there are only 2 companies that provide the data, navteq and tele atlas/gdt. get something that has tele atlas data. it's much more accurate and up to date in high growth areas.
