Although the effects, makeup, costumes and effects were low budget, this show the greatest story arc of any SciFi show on TV. BSG might be the only one that comes close.
This series is definitely worth $20 a season.

I agree with #1. The effects were pretty rough in the beginning, but the plot and arc were one of the best in sci-fi history.
Man, DS9 NEVER gets this low.
I watched the whole series - this is still my all time favorite series. I loved BSG and Firefly, but B5 rocked.
Great series with seasons 3 and 4 possibly being the best Sci-Fi to ever be shown on TV. If you can play region 2 Pal discs you can get a great deal on the whole series with the movies and the follow-up series Crusade, and The Lost Tales for 62.98 euro. It's exclusive to Amazon UK. I did manage to pick the movie collection at a Big Lots recently for $6.
Hulu has the first two seasons up for viewing if you want to check it out before you buy.
I agree completely with the others - great series.
First show to do pure CGI effects. This allows completely new concepts to finally hit Sci-Fi ... like a space series that, gasp, had ships that adhered to Newtonian physics instead of "flying."
If your into SciFi and haven't seen it check it out you will be glad you did.
I found the complete collection at my local library. Some disks were unplayable until 'polished' but well worth the effort.
I agree with everyone. Little rough in the beginning but very enjoyable.
